I've been trying to think of a haiku to express my response to wild swans.

instead i think i will write one about my experience of reading this book...a metanarrative if you will:

five hundred pages
lotsa chinese history
skimming was involved

um, let's see. i will have to meditate on a haiku. how about.

i only read half
the book but the parts i read
were interesting.

okay. that's a lazy haiku. more when i'm feeling insightful.

i will say that everytime i picked up the book to read it, i would feel oppressed, and since i'd just read brick lane, it made book club kind of a downer.
